5 ways to cozy up your home

Tuesday, May 18, 2021

Hello Love!
Since we're all still staying home more, I thought I'd share my 5 favorite ways to cozy up my home so go grab yourself a warm cup of coffee and let's go!
First up, blankets. Now as you can see from the photo above, even the cat is a huge fan of warm, fuzzy blankets. We've got baskets full of them all around the house, just waiting for someone to grab as they walk by.
Our favorite blankets are from Barefoot Dreams but if you're on a budget, you can find some fantastic dupes like THIS ONE.

Next up, plants.
Now, if you follow me on social media, YOU KNOW I love me some plant babies. All the plant babies. They add so much earthiness and warmth to a space so we have them all over our house. I mean, ALL OVER our house...as you'll see in the rest of the pictures.

Another way to cozy up your home, get pictures of you're family around you. Run to Ross, TJ Maxx, or even your favorite thrift store to get some frames and print off your favorite photos from your camera roll. Better yet, print off all you're favorites and get them in a photo album for your coffee table. Trust me, you'll find yourself picking it up all the time!

Alright, this next one is a good one...ready?
Ditch those hospital white light bulbs and get nice warm toned ones. Trust me, they are SO much better! My favorites are the new vintage bulbs if your bulbs are in a lamp where they'll be seen. THESE vintage bulbs are my favorites but if you're wanting just regular ones, TRY THESE.

Last up, candles and diffusers.
Now, since I started using essential oils and cleaner products, I rarely (and I mean rarely) burn candles. I do have one candle that I LOVE and it's the Leipers Fork scent from Southern Firefly Candle Company. It's a rich sandalwood scent and it's enchanting.
For the other 99.9% of the time, I've got my favorite oil scents diffusing into the air. Spearmint, Purification, and Christmas Spirit are my favorite ones from Young Living and if you're in need of them, you can find them HERE.
Well, that's my list! What makes your house super cozy? Share with me in the comments below!

How I Created A Perfectly Organized Master Bedroom Closet

Shaw Avenue | Master Bedroom Closet Makeover & Closet Capsule Wardrobe
Hello Love!
A few years ago, my husband created my DREAM closet for my Christmas present (you can read that post here) and while it's gone through many changes since then, it's still my favorite room in the house.

My cousin and I recently decided to do a major purge and start sizing down for a more simplistic wardrobe. Less trendy, more classic. While she's going for more of a French fashion vibe, I'm heading back to my favorite preppy, classic JCrew style and pulling most of my inspiration from my favorite blogger, Sarah Vickers Patrick aka Classy Girls Wear Pearls.

I've never been one to wear super trendy pieces but I am being more conscience about what I bring into this space. Instead of buying cheap shirts from Target that, let's be honest, don't last a second season, I'm investing in better pieces that will still look great three+ years down the line.

It took me an entire weekend to purge and organize this space and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. It bring me so much joy to walk into this room every day.

Let me walk you through a few things of how I created this space:
  • First up, I had to un-attach myself to certain things in order to get rid of them. Thinking about how much I paid for something really held me back but I had to overcome that and realize if I wasn't using it, then I wasn't enjoying it.
  • I brought every piece of clothing I had into this space. This closet was FULL before but now EVERYTHING is in here. I no longer have tubs of off-season apparel in my attic AND I brought everything from my chest of drawers in my bedroom in there. Now when it's time to get dressed, everything I need is in here and I'm not going back and forth. I got rid of a lot of school and switched them over to the shelving on the opposite side. This left enough space to add baskets to organize my undergarments, socks, and pajamas. Like I said, my entire wardrobe is now in this room. 🙌🏻
  • Organization is key to keeping this room flowing. Everything has a home and I have to be sure to put it back where it belongs when I'm done with it. I grabbed my gorgeous white Longaberger baskets to keep everything contained but beautiful to look at.
  • If you have room or wall space for a little home decor, add it! I'm currently redoing my home office so I moved my beloved framed shopping bags here and added a cute rug to brighten up the space even more.

A Quick And Easy Master Bedroom Makeover

Friday, February 5, 2021

A huge thank you to Cathay Home for sponsoring today's post.
Hello Love!
I've been wanting the perfect farmhouse master bedroom FOREVER. You know the one...shiplapped walls, fluffy white comforter, iron headboard, the whole kit and caboodle.

When we talked about home improvements we were going to make in 2021, master bedroom furniture, unfortunately, was at the bottom of the list. We've got other projects that need to get done first so my bright white bedroom is just going to have to wait.

Then I found a new bedding company on Instagram and knew I needed this rusty orange comforter. A very boho-ish rusty comforter. TOTALLY not my norm, but girl, I needed it.

Now, how was I going to make that work with my almost 2-decade old cherry and iron bed and dressers? Well, after scouring Pinterest for a few hours, I got a few ideas on how I could mesh it all together and make it look fab. I bought my favorite linen curtains from Amazon, white Euro pillows from TJ Maxx, grabbed plants from other rooms, found new rattan lamps from Ross Dress for Less, and this GORGEOUS rug from Target to pull it all together. I also snagged these Smart Sheets from Cathay Home and they are incredibly soft and have a fun feature. They've got sewn in pockets on each side to house some of your small essentials like your cell phone, reading glasses, remotes and more. I keep the end of my cell charger tucked in one so it doesn't get lost between the bed and nightstand.

A few simple changes on a small budget.

My Bright and Cheery Home Office Makeover

Tuesday, January 12, 2021

Hello Love!
When we built our house we had this extra space at the top of the stairs and weren't sure what to do with it. It was too small for a bedroom but not big enough to do much else with. It started off as my scrapbook/craft room but then changed a few years ago to my office, when I started working from home. It was a mish-mosh of furniture from other rooms and was always a mess.

While antiquing one Sunday, we found these AMAZING framed shopping bags and the design inspiration started then and there. I framed bags that I had saved and started designing the room around them.

Most of the furniture and decor was bought from Ross and TJ Maxx since I was on a tight budget and the room turned out amazing.

It was the perfect little office for me to work out of. Bright and cheery.

Our New Farmhouse Living Room Decor

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Hello Love!
Over the winter we decided that our home was in need of a refresh. Not a major change, but we knew that after living in this house almost 10 years it was time to repaint and get a few new pieces of furniture since our couches were going on 15 years of service. 😉

We went to a few places looking for new couches but fell in love with this set from Ashley Furniture Home Store. We got a great deal on the couch, loveseat, and rocker set but delivery was an absolute nightmare. It took almost 2 months to get the couch and loveseat and over 3 months to get the rocker, my favorite part of the set. Even though we wanted to cancel after all the hassle, the pieces were still worth it in my opinion.

I kept almost all my other decor the same but I added in the little needlepoint chair that I found at an antique store for only $20! Such a great find! I would say 75% of the decor in this room has been bought over the years in antique stores. Those are my favorite places to buy things because it makes our house special and not looking like every other "farmhouse" on Instagram.

If you see a piece you love, comment below and I can help you find a similar piece!
