I spend a lot of time in my kitchen, so I like to keep it both useful and pretty. I want things close at hand when I’m cooking or baking, but I also don’t want my counters to look cluttered. Over the years, I’ve found a few little habits and items that keep my kitchen feeling organized and homey, everything has a purpose, and it all looks nice doing it!
Here are some of my favorite things I keep handy in my kitchen that make everyday life easier and keep the space tidy.

When I’m chopping vegetables or peeling fruit, I keep a small bowl nearby to toss in the scraps. It saves me from running back and forth to the trash can, and when I’m done, I just dump it all at once. I switch out the bowl seasonally; a ceramic pumpkin in the fall, a simple white stoneware bowl the rest of the year so it always looks like it belongs on the counter.

I drink tea every day, so I keep my favorite tea cachets tucked neatly inside a small Longaberger basket on the counter. It keeps them within easy reach but still looks charming, a lot better than a stack of half-opened boxes!

Instead of hiding my most-used spoons and spatulas in a drawer, I keep them in a vintage pitcher next to the stove. It’s practical for cooking and adds that cozy, old-fashioned kitchen charm I love.

A few years ago, I swapped my jumble of mismatched spice bottles for a neat drawer setup with matching jars and simple labels. It’s made such a difference! I can see every spice at a glance, and the uniform containers make the drawer look so tidy.

Before I start cooking, I take off my wedding ring and watch. I keep a small ceramic trinket dish by the sink just for them. It’s one of those tiny habits that prevents lost jewelry and keeps the counter looking tidy.

Flour, sugar, and coffee are stored in matching basket containers on my counter. They’re functional, easy to grab, and look so clean lined up together. You can even add simple labels or wooden scoops for a little extra charm.

I love the look of a few wooden cutting boards leaned against the backsplash. They add warmth and texture to the space, and I use them all the time for quick prep work or serving cheese and fruit.

Even though they’re out of sight, I love knowing my drawers are organized. Acrylic trays keep my silverware, utensils, and measuring spoons neat and easy to find. It’s one of those simple things that makes a big difference in how calm the kitchen feels.
Keeping a tidy kitchen doesn’t mean hiding everything away, it’s about finding ways to make the everyday items you use part of the decor. A few thoughtful containers, bowls, and trays can make your kitchen look pulled together and warm, without sacrificing practicality.
