Best Plants For Beginners

March 13, 2021

Hello Love!

Whenever I post one of my pretty plant babies on Instagram I always get asked about which plants are best for beginners. I’m definitely no expert but I will share which plants I’ve been able to keep alive for almost a year. I’m pretty proud that my thumb isn’t so black anymore. 😂

But first, let me chat a second about the planter above. This trio of plants was a set that I found at Lowe’s last spring and it’s one of my favorites. The three plants (snake, chinese evergreen, and philodendron) are all no-fuss plants and some of the easiest to keep alive. They don’t need a lot of water or direct sunlight so they’re easy to place in your home.

Alright, are you ready?

Here’s the plants I personally have that I’ve had the easiest time keeping alive:

Here’s a few tips to take into account before you purchase a plant.
  • First, decide where the plant will live in your home. Know what kind of light it’s going to get all day. You don’t want to purchase one that needs full light if it’s going to sit on your mantle or coffee table where it won’t get enough.
  • Keep your phone handy so you can do research on the plant when you’re in the store. Even though you may love the look of a plant, you don’t want to waste money and possibly kill it by not knowing what it needs beforehand.
  • Don’t repot your plant when you get it. Most plants can survive up to a year in the pot they come in before they need to move to a larger one. If you’re wanting to put it in a decorative pot, buy one a little bigger so the plastic fit down in it nicely.
  • If you’re wanting to expand your plant knowledge, I suggest joining The House Plant Enthusiasts Facebook page. The members are everything from beginners to experts and they are incredibly helping if you need any help or additional information. I get so inspired every time I see the posts.
  • Grab THIS MISTER. I use it on my plants every few days to add a bit of extra moisture to the leaves. It’s wonderful!!
Well, that’s all I have for now! As always, please feel free to reach out in the comments below or via email (hello@shawave.com) if you have any questions or need help with anything. I’m always here to help.
